The film was directed by James Cameron and produced by 20th Century Studios. The story of the Sully family will begin with the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

The Way of Water will introduce audiences to Jake and Neytiri's new family, which will include several native Na'vi children, as well as the human child. The poster puts the focus on what appears to be one of Jake and Neytiri's children, with the movie centering on the familiar heroes and their new family, as well as exploring the underwater world of Pandora.
The follow-up to the first movie will pick up with Jake and Neytiri more than a decade after the events of the first movie.

Sam says that Jim is a very loyal man, and he keeps the same people on board, but he is a small part in this. The trailer does a great job of keeping much of the plot a secret, but the footage shows the lush visuals that will make the sequel equally as successful as its record-breaking predecessor. The return of the big, blue cat-people, the Na'vi, is teased in a new poster. He said, "It's a Jim Cameron movie, man, what do you think?"
