The series is a supernatural fantasy-horror story that follows the goings-on in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, which is beset by monsters that emerge from a parallel dimension known as the Upside Down. The sequence, which is dark and bloody as screams rend the air in the underground lab, sets up the even darker and more horror-inspired tone of this season, which will feature Stranger Things at its most mature.

The footage shared in this eight-minute clip is an extended prologue to season 4 taking place on the formerly peaceful Fall morning of September 8, 1979 before the events of season 1. The attic of the supposedly haunted Creel House is believed to be the location of a portal to the Upside Down. This seems to be a reference to a violent act that a young Eleven committed, revealing the opening moments of the season to be a reference to her time at Hawkins Lab. If this is the case, the season will periodically return to the time following Eleven's violent outburst and provide fans with more information on her origins than they've ever had before. Modine will be appearing in multiple episodes of the season, but it's possible that he won't be in the season's main timeline.
It's setting up an exploration of Eleven's back story that will likely have major ramifications for everyone in the town.
The first eight minutes of the premiere episode of season 4 were shared on the official account of the show. Three years after season 3, the new season has been split into two parts due to production issues. One week is all it will take for Part 1 to arrive on May 27, 2022, followed a month and a half later by Part 2. There is a brief glimpse of Gaten Matarazzo'sDustin on his paper route, but it's all about Dr. Brenner and Eleven in the Hawkins Laboratory.
The post contains a reference to Matthew Modine's Dr. Brenner, who will be reappearing this season after not appearing in season 3. Jonathan and Will Byers will be separated from their friends as they start school in California. The first eight minutes of the fourth season of the show have been released. Hopper has to be rescued from a group that has their own Demogorgon in Russia.
