The Duffer Brothers have already confirmed Will's story will be more prominent in season 5, and Almirn's poster may not be far off the mark. Will's connection to the Mind Flayer suggests that he may be the key to defeating Vecna and the other evil beings of the Upside Down. In the season 4 finale, Will tells Mike that he has retained part of his connection to the Mind Flayer and that Vecna is still alive.
After playing an important role in season 2, Will was less active in season 3, and although season 4 explored the character in some interesting new ways, he still largely took a back seat during much of the action. It remains to be seen how Will and his connection to the Mind Flayer will figure into the upcoming season, but it's likely that Hawkins will become a central battleground in the events to come.
Despite his position as one of the core characters on the show, many fans have criticized the way he is kept out of the action. Much to the surprise of many fans, the finale saw Vecna succeed in his goal, with giant crevasses to the Upside Down opening up all throughout the town.
An impressive new piece of Stranger Things season 5 fan art imagines Will as the main character as the town of Hawkins falls. The Duffer Brothers have confirmed that the show will be its last. "Hawkins will fall" is the slogan on the poster and it depicts the town being overrun by Vecna. The Mind Flayer looms in the sky above Will in the poster.
The second volume of the season of Stranger Things was released last week.
In an impressive new piece of fan art, artist Axel Almirn imagines what a poster for the show would look like.
