The original comic books depicted Soldier Boy as a bit of a joke, seemingly of no real threat to a powerful Supe. He was Homelander before Homelander, so he's from a different era, but he's got the ego and ambition, it just comes across in a different way. Payback is a superhero group that was the world's most elite team of superheros before Vought assembled the Seven. The superheroes' names are listed as cast members of the faux poster for the fictional Payback movie, as it has been established in prior seasons that the superhero characters often play themselves in movies about their adventures. He's like John Wayne in that he's been around for decades of Vought history.

In the new poster, Soldier Boy stands front and center with the other members of Payback behind him. It has been a lot of fun to dig into the history of the world. He will be transformed into someone who Eric Kripke has referred to as the "John Wayne of superheroes" for the TV series adaptation. The other Payback members' names are Mindstorm, Airburst, Gunpowder, and Black Noir.
The new poster for The Boys was just sent out by the official account. Soldier Boy is the focus of season 3, but it is also about the team he was a part of called Payback. Ackles' character comes in as a major threat to The Seven and it sounds like Homelander has met his match with Soldier Boy. Eric Kripke told The Illuminerdi that he thinks the group gets amazing things to do. He's mostly subservient to Homelander in the comics. He was the first superhero to take the world by storm. What was it like in the 60s and 70s and 80s? Who was the Seven before the Seven? Black Noir is a member of the Seven. There will be new footage in a trailer coming in on Monday to kick off the week. The poster may or may not make more sense when we drop the trailer Monday.

I think anyone expecting Jensen to be a good guy will be disappointed.
